Full steam ahead!
Winter is here and so is the year’s last new moon. That means one last time to fix our lives before we get caught up in the frenzy of the new year and muck it up all over again.
Maybe that’s why the last new moon is always in the sign of Sagittarius — the wanderer, the philosopher, and the life-long learner. We need that fearless spirit to see us through the bitterness of the cold season and all the endings it brings with it.
Endings mark the beginning of our next big adventure, and 2019 is just a blink away. So here are 5 new moon rituals you can do for the new moon in Sagittarius on December 7th. Harness the wild, free-spirited energy of Sagittarius and infuse your life with its fearless magic.
1. Burn your grudges and let them go.
Sagittarius energy is hopeful and optimistic. It infuses us with the ability to see the big picture and stop getting distracted by the petty details. And this new moon ritual will allow you to unload all the grudges you have stocked up over the last 12 months (or more) so you feel unburdened and ready to take on the world when 2019 comes around.
To do this, spend five minutes writing out one grudge every day and then stock them up in a bowl. This way, when the December 22nd full moon comes around later this year, you will have a lot of negative energy prepped for the burning bowl. And yes, that’s literally what we will do: Burn away all those slips of paper with all the grudges written on them.
2. Meditate with a Lapis Lazuli resting on the palm of your non-dominant hand.
Our non-dominant hand represents our receptive side. And since Lapis Lazuli is a powerful stone of protection that brings our intuition to the forefront of our mind, meditating for even a few minutes on this new moon day with this crystal will turn out to be very beneficial for you. Especially if you are about to make a big decision!
Just hold the crystal in your non-dominant hand as you meditate comfortably in a cross-legged position. You will be surprised by the depth of your own wisdom. Want to amp up the spiritual vibes? Light a few purple candles while you do this as purple is associated with the crown chakra and the energy of Sagittarius.
3. Burn an oil-diffuser holding courage-boosting oils.
Essential oils that encourage fearlessness and bravery are clary sage, rosemary, eucalyptus, thyme, and vetiver. So choose the one you resonate with and allow the scent of this oil to diffuse in your living space on the day of the new moon.
You never know, it just might give you the courage to call that special someone you have wanted to speak to all along.
4. Create a time capsule and stash it away for the future.
Sagittarius energy is all about exploring the unexplored and doing things out of the ordinary. Thus, a time capsule. To create one, grab a small cardboard box (or a thrift-store metal one if that’s what you prefer) and fill it up with whatever you loved doing this year. Add your favorite magazine of the month, pictures of your recent vacations, mementos from festivals you attended, and even the takeout menu of your favorite haunt.
Finally, write a letter to your future self, detailing out all the lessons you have learned so far this year and create a wish list for the future. (Won’t it be fun when you open the box and realize you have achieved many of them?) Now seal all these knick-knacks inside the capsule and stash it away, out of sight. Then, set a Google alert for a few years later when you want to open up the capsule.
5. Seek wisdom at the unlikeliest of places.
Have an enemy? When you talk to them next, listen before you judge. They might drop a few nuggets of wisdom along with their usual vile bilge.
And if you are not brave enough to do that, go and help out at a homeless shelter or an old-age home. That will expose you to people you would have never met on a regular day. And that opens up a wealth of opportunities, if only you are willing to listen and observe first and speak second.
