In Episode 3 of the Room Makeover Series, we visit Surrey, BC and meet Gabrielle. After a childhood of constant moves and turbulent family life, Gabrielle has finally settled into her own place and was nominated to receive a room makeover for her sparsely-decorated apartment.
The redesign focused on the main room of her apartment, which served as both a living room and a dining area. Since Gabrielle was flexible as far as her personal style was concerned, interior designer and series host Lisa Moody (Grapevine Designs) had no trouble coming up with an optimal plan for the makeover.
The renovation work, undertaken by contractor Morris VanAndel (Vanwest Developments) and his team, started with a fresh coat of paint for the room, to match the new colour palette. Other changes included swapping out a heavy, outdated light fixture for a theme-appropriate new version, hanging a TV on the wall, and bringing in a full set of new furniture, including a sofa, table, dining set, and more.
Of course, things can never go perfectly according to plan—the team had to contend with small elevators and doorways that made moving furniture challenging, and the walls needed more coats of paint than was originally planned.
But, these challenges were overcome, and the episode ends with the dramatic reveal of the transformed apartment and Gabrielle’s stunned reaction.
